Everyone should take care of their skin to reduce the signs of aging and prevent skin cancer. Here are a few tips.
Skin is the visible body organ that protects our internal workings. Stretching from head to toe like a flexible rubber balloon, it covers the entire body to protect it from environmental assault and damage.
Many people are so preoccupied with caring for their internal organs that they neglect to take care of the first level of defense, the skin. As a result, over time they may get sun-darkened, wrinkled, cracked skin
spotted by moles and freckles. Worse, the melanin or color in their skin may take a malignant turn for the worse and develop runaway tumors that will invade and destroy the rest of the body via skin cancer. The two other types, squamous cell and basal cell cancer, are easier to treat, but can lead to significant surface and below-the-surface damage if they are not removed.
Caring for the skin is not difficult. Just follow these easy steps:
1. Keep it clean. Wash facial and body skin on a daily basis to remove grime, dust, and pollution particles. Use a mild soap for everyday dirt, or a stronger cleanser for ground-in dirt that may be accumulated from manual labor or farming, for example. Use a clean washcloth and towel to avoid returning the removed dirt to the body.
2. Use a moisturizer. Face, lips, and hands are the primary places that need to be kept hydrated and moist, especially in winter when cold temperatures may dry and crack the skin. But it’s a good idea to moisturize the entire body with lotion or cream to keep it supple, hydrated, and protected.
3. Go undercover. Wear appropriate clothing for each season of the year and varied environment or weather conditions. Keep all body parts covered by clothing or sunscreen while outdoors in midday. Wear gloves, socks, and a scarf to cover exposed areas of your body
while outdoors in extremely cold temperatures. Very windy or dry air can wreak havoc on the skin as well, so cover up, even lightly, in conditions like these.
4. Wear sunscreen. In winter or summer, sunscreen should be applied to any exposed areas of the body when outdoors. The sun’s rays can dry, age, and damage skin cells to cause permanent loss of elasticity and cause wrinkling or drying. Blistering sunburns or repeat exposures can lead to skin cancer; if left untreated or not caught early enough, melanoma can be fatal, having claimed Doris Day’s son and Ronald Reagan’s daughter, among others.
5. Stay hydrated. Drink eight glasses or more of clear fluid each day. Avoid more than a cup or two of beverages with caffeine. Water soothes your body from the inside out and helps to moisturize internal organs as well as the skin. Make sure your water is safe to drink, or filter it from the tap. Wash your face twice daily, in the morning and at night.
Skin plays a valuable role in protecting and extending bodily health. Take care of your skin from an early age and you will be able to enjoy its physical beauty for decades to come. Source from: http://www.essortment.com

Just ten years ago, the thought of buying a new car sight unseen would seem like an unwise purchase. But the explosion of the Internet has even reached car dealers and potential buyers.
Before you buy your car
Whether you buy online or drive to your local car dealer, you want to research. Ask yourself these questions:
How much can I afford?
What type of car do I want-SUV, sedan, sports car, etc…
What options do I want-CD player, satellite radio, GPS, cruise control, etc…
Is color important to me?
Do I want an automatic or manual transmission? What about engine size?
What type of warranty do I want?
Once you know what you want, you can earnestly begin your research.
Many car dealers proudly boast that their vehicle is the “Motor Trend Car of the Year.” Their website is www.motortrend.com. This is another great resource to use when you are researching a new car.
You can also research in your neighborhood. Do you neighbors, family or friends have a similar car? Are they happy with their purchase?
How to buy a new car online
There are many websites that feature new cars. Many will link you to a dealership in your local area, so you many want to Google your local dealership and see if they have a website with new car listings. If you want to search within 100 miles of your area for the car of your dreams, several websites will accommodate you. The websites include:
www.cars.com
www.NewCar.com
www.carsbelowinvoice.com
These websites offer you a chance to fantasize about your dream car without leaving your home. You can chose the make, model, color (both interior and exterior) and other features. You will get an estimated price and be able to view a picture of the car.
Once you have found the dream car, you will be able to contact the dealer who has the car in stock. In some cases, you can order your car from the factory if what you want is not available. Be warned-this can be expensive and not a good idea if you are trying to save money on your car purchase.
Tips on buying a new car
If you are buying a new car, remember you will get a better deal in December, when car dealer are trying to get rid of last year’s new models. And you will also find more eager salesmen if you buy toward the end of the month, when salesmen are trying to reach their quotas.
Because many car dealers can use unscrupulous tactics, many states have “Lemon Laws” which protect consumers if they buy a “lemon.” The federal Consumer Action website (www.consumeraction.com), has these tips for anyone wanting to purchase a new car.
Check out different vehicles.
Several Internet sites can help you compare features and prices on new motor vehicles. Visit www.where-can-I-buy-a-car-online.com for links to these sites. A scorecard reports on the features of each site including whether quotes are free, the availability of financing, and site security. Two magazines offer information in print and online concerning vehicle performance, service and safety: Consumer Reports (www.consumerreports.org) and Motor Trend (www.motortrend.com).
Research the dealer’s price for the car and options.
It’s easier to get the best price when you know what the dealer paid for a vehicle. The dealer invoice price is available at a number of websites and in printed pricing guides. Consumer Reports offers the wholesale price. Lower than the invoice price, this figure factors in dealer incentives from a manufacturer and is a more accurate estimate of what a dealer is paying for a vehicle.
Find out if the manufacturer is offering rebates that will lower the cost.
Two websites that offer this information are www.carsdirect.com and www.autopedia.com/html/Rebate.html.
Get price quotes from several dealers.
Find out if the amounts quoted are the prices before or after rebates are deducted.
Avoid high-profit, low-value extras such as credit insurance, extended warranties, auto club memberships, rust proofing and upholstery finishes. You do not have to purchase credit insurance in order to get a loan. source:www.savemoney.com

The Fed announced Thursday new rules that prohibit banks from automatically enrolling customers in overdraft protection programs that charge fees when customers spend on a debit card or withdraw from an ATM more money they have in their checking account. The move comes in response to consumer outrage at the fees, which can amount to more than $30 for an overdraft of a few bucks. The new rules, which cover only ATM and debit card (and not checking) overdraft protection plans, don’t go into effect until July 2010, but here are five ways you can protect yourself now:

1. Keep a buffer in your checking account. Keep an extra cash cushion in your account at all times so you won’t overdraw your account for an emergency expense or if you incorrectly calculate your balance.

2. Sign up for automatic low balance alerts. If you request it, most banks will alert you via either e-mail or text message, that your balance has fallen below a certain level. Once you get that alert hold off on additional purchases or withdrawals until you’ve got more money in your account.

3. Link to your checking account to a savings account. Once you’ve established a link, your bank will withdraw funds from the savings account to cover the overdraft. This service customarily costs $5 to $10 per transaction, so while it’s not free, it certainly beats a $35 overdraft fee.

4. Consider cash. Check your balance before hitting up the ATM, and only withdrawal what’s available. Yes, it may seem obvious, but it’s still a surefire method of avoiding overdraft fees.

5. Opt out. While the new regulations will require consumers to opt in, most banks will let you opt out now. You just have to call and ask. But remember, once you’ve opted out of overdraft protection, your card will be rejected if you try to spend more than you have.

The Sopranos. Weeds. Sex and the City. These shows could only be seen by subscribers to premium cable or satellite television. In recent years, premium cable channels have produced shows that have led families to purchase cable and satellite services just to be able to watch their favorite shows. But often when families are facing financial difficulty, cable television or the satellite service is usually one of the “luxuries” that is cut to save money.

Yet many parents cannot fathom life without the “Disney Channel” or the “Cartoon Network” and many men feel it is a necessity to watch their favorite sports teams. And how will they keep up with the series they have grown to love over the years. So if families want to keep their premium programming, can they do it and save money?
$8.95/mo - Unlimited Long Distance Phone Line
The “new” cable industry

Thirty years ago, most cities and towns has only one cable provider. Like it is today, cable rates were regulated by the local franchising authority, which is usually a city or county governing body. This does keep cable rates steady, but the influx of competition and satellite services have given consumers more choices.

ATT and Windstream, once only providers of phone service, now provide satellite television through other providers such as the DISH Network and DirecTV. Some local utility companies are also getting into the cable business. Consumers can purchase “package deals” that include telephone, Internet and cable or satellite services. If you need all three of the services, you can save money by purchasing a package deal.

The satellite television industry is very competitive. Many companies have special offers in local coupon books. These include free installation or a free surge protector. Make sure you check out the companies. The Better Business Bureau will be able to give you information about the company.

Will cable or satellite save you money?

Choosing cable or satellite services is a matter of preference and budget. You will pay between $30 up to over $100 a month, depending on the provider and the package you choose. Here are some important questions you should ask yourself before deciding.

Do you really need 250 channels? That satellite dish with the large number of channels may sound like a good deal at around $69 per month, but how many of those channels will you really watch? Both cable and satellite services offer a wide variety of packages-some for less than $30. If you are trying to save money, is it wise to buy the largest package? Will it be cheaper to rent movies weekly or order a premium package that includes movie channels such as HBO or Showtime?

What are the equipment costs? You can’t have satellite television service without a dish. However, some companies will give you the equipment free if you agree to a lengthy contract. Some digital cable services require you to rent a “box.” Add these costs in when deciding how much to pay for your cable or satellite service.

Is one of the package deals right for you and your family. If you need Internet service because you have school children at home who need to use it for homework and you need great channel to keep everyone happy, a package deal could be right for you.

You have to consider reliability. Satellite services will often go out during a severe storm. Do you have another way of getting pertinent information in case of an emergency? If you begin having problems with your system, is a repairman close or will one have to come from another city? What kind of customer service will you receive if you have a problem with your service or bill. Cheap cable or satellite services are not truly cheap if the service is bad.

Going back to the “old days”

If you don’t want a monthly bill to be able to watch television, you can consider an antenna. Thirty years ago, outdoor antennas were everywhere. Inside antennas, affectionately known as “rabbit ears,” allowed consumers to receive local channels. Some preferred to purchase an outside antenna, which was usually placed on the roof of a home.

Antennas are still available but you may want to consider the cost. You can purchase an indoor antenna at a local discount retailer for as low as $30. Other antennas and outside antennas can cost several hundred dollars.
